Monthly Climatology: The long-term, expected temperature for each month is used as the baseline for calculating sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies and heat stress. The Monthly Climatology is set to the regression solution at the time 1988.286, which is the time-center (temporal mid-point) of Coral Reef Watch's heritage 50km climatology and subsequent 5km climatologies (both current and historical)1. We determined climatology values at coral reef-containing and adjacent satellite pixel locations worldwide, for the period 1985-2012, using the Version 3.1 CoralTemp daily global 5km satellite SST data product.
