The surface of this coral colony is made up of thousands of individual
polyps, each one only a couple of millimeters across. This close-up
photo of a live coral colony was taken at the
Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology,
by James P. McVey (formerly of the NOAA Sea Grant Program).
