We have been watching the potentially warm [hotspots] waters moving gradually northward in the western South Pacific...it appears SSTs are nearing critical levels around and immediately south [7S] of New Britain Island [Papua New Guinea] in the Solomon Sea. High SST levels have subsided somewhat around Fiji. I am told [Norman Quinn] that a tropical storm helped mix surface waters to reduce temperatures in that region, at least for the time being. Potenital bleaching levels are approaching 20S near the Date Line. AES
